One row for one recorded pass or defined observation
Use the “Parameter type” field to identify whether a row is an actual PQR record, trial observation or proposed production setting. Do not mix them. Duplicate rows for each pass when values change, and retain the process segment, filler, equipment and source locator that make the values meaningful.
| Field group | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Job and segment identity | Connect the observation to a project/joint/drawing revision, WPS and revision, qualification basis, process segment and pass. |
| Process context | Identify process, pass role, equipment/program/waveform where applicable, position/progression, base material and thickness, filler product/diameter, gas/flux and polarity. |
| Recorded measurements | Capture current, voltage, wire feed speed, travel speed and any energy value with units. Keep the raw observations and their measurement method/source locator. |
| Conditions and notes | Record preheat/interpass, ambient conditions, arc time/bead length and sequence notes only when they were actually measured or documented. |
| WPS proposal | Enter proposed setting and applicable supported range in separate columns with units, basis and reviewer disposition. Do not copy a code tolerance into an unverified production range. |
Use values with their source and meaning
- For PQR data, transcribe recorded values and units; link the exact page or segment. A blank or illegible field remains unknown.
- For a trial or production observation, identify the date, equipment and conditions. Label it as an observation, not a qualification test unless it is part of a properly documented test record.
- For proposed settings, cite the matched manufacturer, project or qualification basis and identify the conditions the setting depends on, such as process, product, diameter, position, gas or pass role.
- Enter energy or heat input only when the underlying measurements and applicable calculation method are known. Record the method and source; do not treat a blank field as zero or infer waveform energy from ordinary average current and voltage.
- Keep actual PQR values, proposed production settings and the applicable permitted range distinct. Do not use prequalified operating tolerances as a substitute for PQR qualification-variable analysis.
- When a necessary value or source is missing, mark the disposition unresolved and state the concrete evidence needed. Do not fill it with a typical value.
Practical status values
Use unreviewed, accepted for the specific proposed setting after its source and conditions are checked, or unresolved when evidence is incomplete or inconsistent. “Accepted” describes the recorded review disposition only; it does not create an approval or qualify a WPS.
Basis and limits
Original Cavoren working register for organizing parameter evidence during WPS preparation. AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2025 base-edition errata are registered as of 2026-07-28; AMD1 is excluded. Contract edition, applicable code provisions, complete project requirements and product-specific source documents govern. This register supplies no recommended parameters, qualification values or acceptance limits and is not an AWS form or production approval.
