Keep transcription and qualification judgment separate
Transcribe actual facts from the controlled PQR, supporting test reports and linked records. Enter a file name plus page, sheet or report locator for material evidence. Put the rule-derived production scope in the separate “Supported production scope” field and cite the exact clause/table/footnote and conditions. Never rewrite a measured value to make it fit a proposed WPS range.
| Record group | What belongs in it |
|---|---|
| Identity and source | PQR ID/revision, organization shown on the record, actual code edition/test date, coupon identity, controlled file and precise page locator. |
| Test branch | Plate, pipe or tubular; weld type or qualification method; joint/backing/backgouging; position/orientation; and diameter where relevant. |
| Actual coupon/process facts | Each base-metal side, recorded thickness, process sequence, pass role, filler, gas/electrical conditions, actual parameter values/units and process deposit thickness. |
| Test evidence | Actual preheat/interpass/PWHT records, CVN and other report identifiers, results including retests, and source locators. |
| Derived scope | Reviewer-entered supported range with the applicable branch, rule citation, conditions and unresolved limitations. This is an analysis field, not a PQR fact. |
How to build a reliable log
- Create a stable key from PQR ID, coupon ID, process segment and branch. Add rows instead of combining separate process segments or distinct test branches in one cell.
- Transcribe each member side independently. Preserve the actual grade/product condition, coupon thickness and units as recorded; use “unknown” when the source is unclear.
- Capture each process segment and its own deposited weld-metal thickness. Do not substitute base-metal thickness or total coupon deposit for the process-specific record.
- Link test results and supporting records, including retests or adopted results, exactly as documented. A blank report field does not mean a test passed or was unnecessary.
- Only after transcription, determine the applicable qualification path and supported production scope. Record conditions and source notes, and mark the row unresolved where evidence does not support a requested range.
Useful status values
Use unreviewed until a reviewer checks the source and branch; supported only for the specific scope with a recorded basis; unresolved where a needed fact or rule application is open; or not applicable — reason when the field truly does not apply. A PQR log by itself does not establish that a PQR is valid for a target WPS.
Basis and limits
Original Cavoren working register for existing-PQR preparation. Organized around actual PQR evidence, process segments and the separation between recorded facts and derived production coverage. The working reference baseline is AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2025 base edition plus registered 2026-07-28 base-edition errata; AMD1 is excluded. Contract edition and complete applicable standard clauses, tables, notes, reports and project requirements govern. This is not an AWS form, qualification determination, engineering acceptance or approval.
